How to measure your ring size

A ring is worn close to the skin, sometimes even for life. That’s why finding the perfect ring size is essential. But how do you measure your ring size? And what’s the most accurate way to find it? Whether you're selecting a meaningful gift or treating yourself to a handcrafted piece, this guide will show you exactly how to determine your ring size, with or without special tools.

What is my ring size?

Every finger is unique. Your ring size depends on the circumference of your finger, the width of the ring, and even the time of day you measure. Did you know your fingers can swell slightly on warm days or after physical activity? Or that your dominant hand often has slightly larger ring sizes than your non-dominant hand? That’s why measuring carefully, and preferably more than once, is important.

Measuring your ring size using an existing ring

The simplest way to determine your ring size is by measuring a ring you already own:

  1. Choose a ring that fits comfortably on the finger you’re buying for.

  2. Measure the inner diameter using a ruler or caliper. Place the ring on a flat surface and measure from the inside edge to the opposite inside edge.

  3. Is the diameter 16.5 mm? Then your ring size is 16.5.

Note: Only measure rings with a similar band width. Wider bands often feel tighter, so consider sizing up by half a size for those.

A tip for a surprise gift

Want to surprise someone with a ring but don’t know their size? Try to borrow a ring they wear on the correct finger and measure it as described above. Still unsure? Send us an email, we’re happy to help you make an accurate estimate without ruining the surprise.

How to measure your ring size without a ring or tools

No ring at hand and no time to order a reusable ring sizer? You can also use a piece of string or paper:

  1. Cut a thin strip of paper or use a piece of string.

  2. Wrap it snugly around the finger where the ring will sit, without pulling too tight.

  3. Mark where the paper or string overlaps. Lay it flat and measure the length to the mark in millimeters using a ruler, this is your finger’s circumference.

  4. Find your ring size in the table below:

Tips for accurate measuring

  • Measure your finger at the end of the day.
  • Avoid measuring during extreme cold or heat.
  • Repeat the process several times to ensure consistency.

    Fun Facts
For most people their ring size is not as commonly known as their shoe size. The ring size of each finger is different. Usually the fingers of your dominant hand (for most people this is the right hand), have a bigger size than your left hand. This is because your dominant hand is a bit stronger than the non-dominant hand. Also your ring size can differ slightly depending on the temperature, season and even time of the day. During summertime your hands swell slightly and during wintertime your fingers shrink a bit because of the temperature. So, to have the most accurate results, we recommend you to avoid measuring your ring size early in the morning, during a heatwave or when your hands are freezing.

What is the average ring size for women

While every hand is different, it can be helpful to know the average ring size for women, especially if you’re gifting a ring and haven’t had a chance to measure. Most women’s ring sizes fall between 16 and 18. A slender hand typically fits size 16, while sizes 17 to 18 are more common for average to slightly wider fingers.

Of course, this is only a guideline. We always recommend measuring when possible or contacting us for tailored advice. We’ll gladly help you make the gift extra personal and ensure the perfect fit.

What if you're between sizes

Sometimes you just know: size 16 feels too tight, but 16.5 feels too loose. Since we craft each piece by hand, we can create in-between sizes like 16.2 or 16.3.
